Meet Coaches' Commentary
IHSA State Championships
November 22-23, 2002

Congrats to all the girls on a fabulous season. Final Season summaries, best times, and records will all be updated soon so you can see our progress this year.

The State girls all performed as well or better than at sectionals. The perfect taper is hard to reproduce two weekends in a row, but the girls were up to the task. Valerie Tonyan and Kristen Hohl swam faster than at sectionals. Aubriana Ard dove exceptionally well, but just missed making the final cut. Jessica Hohl and Jenna Sveen were both within tenths of their LTB's from the week before and swam their second-fastest times ever in all events.

IHSA Sectionals

Congratulations to all swimmers on an unbelievable sectional meet. Great leadership kept us going through ups and downs, right to the end of the meet. Nearly everyone had best times. We have more qualifiers than ever before. We broke 3 varsity records, 5 Co-op Records, and 2 School Records. Can't ask for much more!

Congratulations to state qualifiers Aubriana Ard (diving), Jessica Hohl (100 free, 200 free), and the 400 free relay of Jenna Sveen, Valerie Tonyan, Kristen Hohl, and Jessica Hohl.

Finally, congrats to school record breakers Aubriana Ard (WWSHS diving) Jessica Hohl (WNHS 100 free).

DVC Championships
November 1-2, 2002

What a way to finish off the season! Check out all the best times on the meet results page...we had so many they can't all be mentioned! The DVC meet was an entire team effort, as Wheaton took 3rd in all 3 divisions (which in my book is just as good as winning it). This was a taste of what "real swimming" is like, and we stepped up nicely to the challenge. Special kudos to our swimmers who placed in the top 6 in their events:

VARSITY: Jessica Hohl (200 free), Jenna Sveen (200 free, 500 free), Val Tonyan (200 IM), Aubriana Ard (diving), Jessica Sveen (100 back), and Sarah Fallon (100 breast).

FRESHMAN: Lena Dansdill (200 free, 500 free), Chelsea Cameron (100 free, 200 free), Jamie Bobo (200 IM, 100 fly), Kate Tracey (200 IM, 100 fly), Ashley Schultz (50 free, 100 free), Jeri Frederickson (100 breast, 500 free), Carly Blake (100 back), and Jenna Walkoviak (100 breast).

JUNIOR VARSITY: Ashley Korol (diving), Tricia Fallon (100 fly).

Bartlett / Oswego
October 26, 2002

Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity swim teams defeated Oswego and lost a close meet to Bartlett. On the varsity level, winners were Jessica Hohl (100 free, 200 free), Aubriana Ard (diving), Kristen Hohl (50 free) and the 200 free relay (Hohl, Hohl, Angela Tomazin, Sarah Fallon). On the JV level, winning events for Wheaton were Lena Dansdill (200 free), Kate Tracey (200 IM), Rachael Harmon (50 free), Julia Lederhouse (100 fly), Ariana Silva (100 free) and the 400 free relay (Dansdill, Ashley Ebersberger, Lauren Kurcz, Silva).

Going into the last meet of the season, the tapering girls showed great response to the first week of taper (which means even better things next week); the non-taper girls showed great resolve in swimming fast times amidst hard work. It will pay off in a few weeks!

What an impressive display of best times and scores after a very challenging week of work. The team finished 3rd in the frosh division and 4th in the varsity division, but was second overall if you combine the two. Way to go!

Lockport Dual Meet

What a great way to start the year. Even though the end result was a no-decision, several swimmers had life-time best times. Notable bests came from Ariana Silva and Angela Tomazin, both of whom had LTB's in every event they swam. Winning events were Valerie Tonyan (500 free) Sarah Fallon (100 breast), Aubriana Ard (diving) and the 200 free relay of Jamie Bob, Jenna Sveen, Val Tonyan, and Jessica Hohl. Wheaton went 1-2-3 or 2-3-4 in several events in the second half of the meet for a spectacular come-from-behind tie. We "swam like we meant it."
